The O.D. Dempsey Jr Memorial Scholarship allowed me to keep the cost of my first year relatively low. This gave me flexability in changing my major from pre-pharmacy to chemistry. Being able to explore some of those fundamental classes with this scholarship allowed me to be financially secure enough to switch majors without feeling like I had put too much money into the first major choice to switch to a different one that I am more passionate about.

I am currently working as an Administrative Assistant at the Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City.

The scholarship helped ease the burden of paying for school. Coming from a middle class family, you are not always afforded all the available need based scholarships, and my family does not make nearly enough money to fully fund my college education. With me being the oldest of five I have other siblings that have the same aspirations as I to go to college and pursue a career in the medical field. With such a tall feat, my parents always said any scholarship helps no matter the sum. Any and every scholarship is a blessing and is bringing myself one step closer to earning a degree that I and my family can be proud of attaining!

I would proudly say that I was able to obtain my Bachelors in three years and was able to obtain more scholarships to help fund my education. I am planning on applying to graduate school for Fall 2026 to pursue a Master's in Healthcare Administration. I was also accepted into a leadership development program at my job that starts next summer and I recently joined a Sorority. The year of 2025 has been more new journeys than I could have ever expected and I am much grateful for. If you told me in January the things that I would have accomplished this year I would have laughed, but I am much appreciative, and it starts with foundation's such as this one pouring into, advocating for, and embracing black youth!!!

This scholarship helped alleviate part of the financial burden that comes with attending college. I was able to give my full focus on my first year of college whilst only working a few days of the week.

I’ve completed all the prerequisites needed for my desired program, I just need to apply now. Wish me luck!

The O. D. Dempsey Jr. Memorial Scholarship had a profound impact on my ability to pursue a college education. Because of this support, I was able to focus fully on my coursework and public service initiatives without the constant stress of covering tuition. The scholarship not only opened the door for me to study abroad but also allowed me to participate in meaningful research opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise. This investment in my education empowered me to grow academically, professionally, and personally, and I am deeply grateful for the doors it has opened in my journey.
